Roger Alexander is one of hip hop’s most notable film directors

Roger Alexander has been in the entertainment industry for over 11 years and is widely known for his keen eye for cinematography. As an executive producer, film director, and director of photography for commercials and music videos, Alexander holds multiple accolades by creating beautiful images and portraying infectious storytelling to the masses under his production company AlphaMale Visuals. The visionary has likely partnered with your favorite rapper and earned respect from multiple record labels in the game as their go-to director for music videos and live performances.

The Start Of A Legacy

Originally from Houston, Texas, Roger Alexander has always had a passion for music. “In high school and college, I was rapping & singing mixtapes and making beats for fun.” expressed Alexander. “At the same time, I created skits and comedy videos to promote the events my fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, was hosting in college. In the process of creating these videos, I realized my talent in filmmaking.”

Roger currently runs his successful media company, AlphaMale Visuals, based in Atlanta, Georgia. The self-taught director has a relentless work ethic, and his determination fueled the vision that motivated him to build his business from the ground up.

“I did not have formal filmmaking training,” continued Alexander. “I worked a corporate day job Monday through Friday for five years and used that job to save up and fund the creation of my own production company. I studied through Google, YouTube, and Wikipedia for several months, teaching myself the skills I needed to be a professional filmmaker.”

Alexander eventually took a leap of faith to follow his dreams. “I quit my day job and moved to Atlanta to run my company full time.” Soon after that life-changing decision, Alexander rose through the ranks in Atlanta, becoming one of the go-to directors and filming music videos for several of the top names in the industry.

“I’ve accomplished feats in a few years what most filmmakers in my field would take a lifetime to achieve. I am the definition of “hard work pays off,” and created my own lane with no handouts.”

Alexander’s Road To Success

Roger has done a tremendous job of staying away from clichés and creating original content. While successfully bringing an artists’ vision to life, Alexander has a long list of accomplishments under his belt. To name a few, Alexander was awarded Atlanta Hip Hop Awards’ Director of the Year in 2019 and 2020, six Plaques of Gold and Platinum records from videos he directed, and accumulated over 200 million video views from his projects. There is no debate that Alexander is on the road to success and doesn’t plan to let up anytime soon.

“Be patient with your progression. It takes several years to plant seeds and benefit from the fruits. Constantly consuming art from several different genres, locations, and mediums are these things can lead to future inspiration and creativity.”

The Next Chapter

Inspired by legendary directors such as Christopher Nolan, Colin Tilley, Tyler Perry, and Hype Williams, there is no surprise that Roger has big plans to follow in their footsteps.

“I am planning to open several new businesses that are related to the hip-hop and film worlds,” Roger expressed. “I want to create a factory-like company that pumps out multiple movies per year with stories centered around the hip-hop & entertainment industry, fusing the hip-hop and film worlds closer together.”

Alexander’s overall dream of creating inspiring narratives starring famous artists in hip-hop has taken him exceptionally far. The visionary also declared one more accolade to add to his list: “Another long-term goal would be to win a Grammy for a music video that I directed.”
