The EP includes a feature with Summer Walker for “Queen Space”, providing that R&B queen energy. The EP overall showcases the songstresses’ unmatched vocal range, and also includes an interpolation to Mary Jane Girls’ “All Night Long”, in the song “Gummy”. “Off the internet until September 9 so here’s my away message to you all. New EP to hold you over until the album, love ya,” she wrote on Twitter. Both projects arrive three years after her last project, Shea Butter Baby.

Kenny Beats – Louie

The talented producer released his debut solo album with features including Vince Staples, Thundercat, Slowthai, and more. The 17-track project is Kenny Beats first with XL Recordings. The producer revealed that the album was after he learned his father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The rollout for the album included visuals posted on the producer’s instagram that showcases friends shooting out fireworks from a BMW in one post, a woman riding a bike in a neighborhood in a red dress in another, and a a man riding on a train holding a fishbowl that reads “Emotional Support” taped on it. Each visual samples songs from the album.

Singles/ Music Videos

Kendrick Lamar – We Cry Together (A Short Film)

Kendrick Lamar officially releases the visuals to, “We Cry Together”, from Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. The six minute short film, directed by Dave Free, Kendrick Lamar, and Jake Schreier, brings to life the intense and heated verbal exchange between Kendrick Lamar and Taylour Paige. The song and short film feature Kendrick and Taylour Paige playing a couple arguing in an apartment in a theatrical way. The short film is shot in one take, served by cinematographer Adam Newport-Berra, with live vocals performed by Kendrick Lamar and Taylour Paige back in March 2020, explaining the distinction in audio between the song and the short film.

Doechii & Sza – Persuasive

The TDE labelmates team up for a sultry, sexy, and bold music video. The Sara Lacombe-directed visual features Doechii and Sza complimenting the confident energy of the song. From dancing on tv screens in hot pink fur, to twerking on an all black G-Wagon, to underwater pole dancing, these artists definitely brought out the heat. Persuasive, which was originally a solo track by Doechii, later earned a surprise verse by Sza. “I created ‘Persuasive’ to uplift people and bring communities together, so having SZA jump on the song was a perfect fit because I’ve always connected with others over her music,” Doechii shared in a press statement.

Nicki Minaj – Super Freaky Girl

In the Barbie-inspired music video, Nicki Minaj plays house with The Hunger Games heartthrob Alexander Ludwig as he plays her Ken. The song samples Rick James’s 1981 song “Super Freak”. Shot in technicolor, the Joseph Kahn-directed music video showcases Nicki dressed Barbie-like in her pink home and robot kitty, in a Barbie themed neighborhood. Though Barbie is known to be artificially perfect and sweet, Nicki adds a twist where she carries a pink kitchen knife over Ken while he caressed her leg, and later torches him and the house on fire. “ Super Freaky Girl” recently debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month, making it Nicki Minaj’s first song to top the charts as a solo artist.

Lil Baby – Detox

Wolf of Sparks, written across a white board in an office, is the Atlanta nod to The Wolf of Wall Street, in this movie inspired music video. The Ivan Berrios and Lil Baby directed music video features scenes of the rapper prepping for a match in a boxing ring, in a chaotic Boiler Room esque brokerage, and as a yoga instructor with other beautiful yogis. A few hours after releasing the visuals, Lil Baby announced the title and release for his album It’s Only Me on Instagram. “I Kno Its Been Along Time Coming But I’m Coming Harder And Harder”, he writes in his Instagram post.

Tyga – Fantastic

Shot in black and white, the video features Tyga rapping in a luxury mansion filled with twerking models in bikinis. The video also features a cameo from LA rapper, YG. The song includes an interpolation to 50 Cent’s “Just a Lil Bit” in the pre-chorus. Prior the release of the song, Tyga took to his Instagram in a post announcing the song and hashtagging “#TRAWBACK”, referencing his 2011 flow that was heavily West Coast inspired. Following his last release, “Sunshine”, Tyga seems to be pushing out music consistently this year.
