Theo Major (formerly known as Derrick Ju’Wan) just released his debut single “SUPA” featuring Shawn Smith assisted with a music video. The song will serve as the first single from his upcoming EP, Pastel Soul.
Prior to the name change, Major was using music as a form of therapy and was creating dark and moody tracks. He decided to quit music when he noticed he wasn’t having fun, but came to the conclusion later that he wasn’t being true to himself thus not liking the music he was creating.
The Philly artist now aims to blend various genres such as R&B, pop, house, and hip-hop to create a new sound and has formed a new identity. The name Theo Major is an ode to Philly legend Teddy Pendergrass and Static Major.
On February 2nd, 2023 he unleashed his latest release “SUPA” featuring Shawn Smith. Smith is a respected Philadelphia artist who also went through a transitional period as an artist. The single is based on a true story of when he lost his college girlfriend to another man because Major took her for granted.
“SUPA” is an introduction. An introduction to Pastel Soul, an EP that will be vibrant and uptempo of Major’s creative expression. An introduction of his fresh take on the genre of R&B/Soul and an introduction to Theo Major- the unconventional artist.
Major pulls inspiration from various artists including Andre 3000, T-Pain, Sade, Ryan Leslie, Childish Gambino, Kaytranda, Smino, Lucky Daye, and Channel Tres.
Theo Major is an ambitious artist who looks to accomplish several goals such as scoring music for a film, producing TV series and films, and opening a theatre company and school in Philly.
Major has seen great success in his music career so far, he has had the opportunity to open for national acts such as Masego, Kota the Friend, and ELHAE.
Theo Major will be continuing his journey to introduce a new sound with upcoming singles ahead of his forthcoming EP release.
