Alternative rap duo Sam and Jacob of The Ugly Boys has resurfaced with Runner’s High the EP. After going viral on Tik Tok with over 1.4 Million views on a teaser video, the boys realized they had what it took to kick off their music career. Creating their group in High School, the boys made it their mission to rise to the top.
As anticipation rose for The Ugly Boys to release they took it upon themselves to connect with fans by making collaborative videos advertising the song. The Santa Cruz Duo first made their appearance back in 2020 with their release, “Run Away.!” A catchy and energetic song with an infectious hook. They kept the momentum going and released 3 new singles– “Down, Down, Down,” “Above the Clouds,” & “Just Tell me The Truth.”
Not only did the single releases raise anticipation ever higher, it also hinted toward their versatility and creativity. Doused with uniqueness, The Ugly Boys continue to out=do themselves. Inspired by the highs and lows of a big city like LA, they transformed their raw emotions into the 7-track EP.
“It for so long without realizing that it was an EP. We are just happy to finally share it with the world,” they told RemixdMag in an interview.
RemixdMag caught up with the duo The Ugly Boys about their quick success on social media and how its reflecting into their musical career. Check out the full interview below.
What are your names, and where are you both based?
Sam and Jacob – We are currently based in Los Angeles, CA and we are from Santa Cruz, CA
How did this duo come together, where did you both meet and decide to become a group?
We met in middle school, Branciforte Middle School, but we became a group in High School through a mutual friend.
What was the inspiration behind the EP?
The highs and the lows of moving out to LA and having a time frame to blow up essentially, and not letting the pressure of it all get to you. Not getting too hyped during the wins and too down during the losses.
How did it feel to gain so much traction from teasing the song on Tik Tok?
It felt good, but our fans kept harassing us about it for so long without realizing that it was an EP. We are just happy to finally share it with the world.
How would you describe yalls’ chemistry and dynamic on a song?
We’ve been working together for so long that it just comes naturally. In the beginning we each had our own distinct strengths, but over the years we have learned from each other and become more balanced.
Describe your sound? What can fans expect from your debut?
We often try to rap over interesting samples. Fans can expect to be surprised by the range of sounds on this project. Some of our inspirations include Mac Miller, Tyler the Creator, and Kanye West.
What’s next to come from the Ugly Boys? What can we expect in the future?
Our best music is unreleased. We have new stuff coming your way much sooner than you think, and you can expect us to be doing more shows.
