Artist spotlight: Rising songstress Avgust Reign on new EP “Anemoia”

Avgust Reign

Avgust Reign is an artist you can definitely vibe out to. The Maryland raised, Los Angeles-based emerging songstress has a sound that can be described as soothing and vibey. “I would say my sound is rooted in R&B but I pull a lot of inspiration from jazz, Hip-Hop and ambient sound,” Avgust Reign tells RemixdMag.

In her 4-track EP, ‘Anemoia‘, Avgust Reign invites listeners into her world of experiencing love from a positive space in songs such as, “Downlow,” and “Radio.” Throughout the project,” Reign says that “most of [her] songs topic-wise lean towards the negativity in love so [she] wanted to make something that represented my life at the time experiencing the opposite.”

“I was in a really positive space with my love life so I wanted to vocalize that and turn that into something that felt really authentic and pure,” she says.

This is an artist who makes being in love and vulnerable sound ethereal and an overall cool experience.

What city are you from/ Where are you based now?

I grew up in Maryland and attended college in NYC. I’m currently based in LA after moving here about 2 years from NYC.

What is your artist name? What is your real name? How did you get your artist name?

Avgust Reign. Mia (real name). I got my artist’s name from my month of birth which is August and I added Reign at the end because it reminded me of the first ancient Roman emperor, which was Augustus. So it’s reign like royalty not like the weather lol.

How would you describe your sound to readers who may not be familiar with you?

I would say my sound is rooted in R&B but I pull a lot of inspiration from jazz, hip hop and ambient sound. I have a really wide taste in music so I like to experiment as much as possible. I tend to always keep a really silky tone throughout everything though which is what I think makes it a little more me.

What’s one reason you are passionate about music and what inspires you?

I just love the way it makes me feel. I love being able to listen to something and feel like it’s completely transported you somewhere else. Or that it’s brought out emotions in you that maybe you thought no one could relate to. I think it’s a really powerful force that connects all of us together and that’s what draws me to it so much and inspires me.

Who are some of your main musical influences?

Definitely the classics I grew up listening to my parents play like Sade, Prince and Stevie Wonder. But the artists I really grew to love on my own growing up are Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, The Arctic Monkeys, Fiona Apple and Lauryn Hill.

Tell us the name of the project you are currently promoting? What inspired this project?

My new EP “Anemoia” is a 4 song project that’s inspired by finding new experiences in love and allowing myself to feel things differently than I have in the past.

Date that this project dropped or is set to drop?

Anemoia dropped on August 19th, 2022

What is this project about in your own words?

Most of my songs topic wise lean towards the negativity in love so I wanted to make something that represented my life at the time experiencing the opposite. I was in a really positive space with my love life so I wanted to vocalize that and turn that into something that felt really authentic and pure.

What’s next for you? Are you working on any upcoming projects we should be on the lookout for? Include some dates if you have them.

I’m getting back into sessions working with producers and I’m looking forward to slowly putting together my first album. That probably won’t be for a while though so in the meantime I’m planning on releasing a series of singles and really small EP’s kind of like Anemoia. I like being able to tell a story through a few songs that are easy for people to digest.

What message do you hope fans take away from your music and from this project?

I hope people relate to the overall idea of just allowing yourself to feel everything regardless of how scary it may be. Really liking someone or even falling in love can be terrifying and I think there’s a lot of strength in vulnerability.
