New Music Friday: The best new songs that dropped this week

best new songs

Remixd Magazine’s best new songs this week directly address individuals who always have something negative to say. From Luh Tyler and Latto’s “The Grinch (Freestyle)” to Sugarhill Ddot and BBG Steppaa’s “Spinnin’ Pt. 2,” our list shows the opps that if they have nothing nice to say, they shouldn’t speak at all.

Read our selection below:

Luh Tyler – “The Grinch (Freestyle) feat. Latto”

Luh Tyler and Latto question why people are so concerned about their whereabouts in “The Grinch (Freestyle).” As the bleak, spine-chilling trap beat goes off, the two rappers exchange bars about riding for their day ones, staying out of harm’s way, and their charm. Similarly, Luh Tyler and Latto illustrate how they set it off with the opps, rapping lines like “Wish a n***a would try to spark somethin’ up, he gon’ get smoked/an, my n***a crazy and he ready to strike just like Lil’ Boat.” Their new song also serves as a clap back toward others who didn’t believe in their success. “Ever since I jumped up on that mic, ain’t been broke ever since,” Luh Tyler brags.

Gloss Up – “N.A.L.B (feat. Chrisean Rock)”

In “N.A.L.B,” Gloss Up and Chrisean Rock rap about upgrading their partners after dealing with men who put them through the ringer. Over the step-inspired trap beat, Gloss Up and Chrisean concur that no matter a person’s gender, sometimes they will act a fool. The “Vibe” rapper uses her verse to address her ex-boyfriend Blueface and the controversy about Chrisean naming her son after herself. “I shoulda got him pregnant because he actin’ like a fruity loop,” Rock raps. “Moet, send the addy / I’m with Big Gloss in a black caddy / Real ni**a, I go too hard / His name Chrisean, ‘cuz I’m daddy.”

Sugarhill Ddot and BBG Steppaa – “Spinnin’ Pt. 2”

Sugarhill Ddot and BBG Steppaa’s “Spinnin’ Pt. 2” is the predecessor of their single, “Spinnin’,” which dropped in early June. The dark violin-centered drill beat finds Sugarhill Ddot and BBG Steppaa showing others how they’re ’bout that action. In a matter of minutes, the rappers detail their retaliation methods against the opps and stand on business. BBG Steppa raps, “Glock on my hip on the left side/Tryna spin take a trip through the west side/Im tryna spin make a jet fly, put a hole in his face and his left eye.”

As the song continues, Sugarhill Ddot and BBG Steppaa call their haters’ bluff, speak on their charm, and effortlessly prove why they’re OG’s. “And for bro yeah they diss for the clout/Like yeah they know what we really about,” Sugarhill Ddot spits. “Like and I don’t gotta talk in this rap s**t, ’cause they know that we really just clap s**t.

HOOD TALI P and Skrilla – “I’m Da Bip (Freestyle)”

Coming off his new project, Murder Rate Music is Hood Tali P’s “I’m Da Bip (Freestyle) feat. Skrilla.” Sampling D4L’s “I’m Da Man,” the Philly rapper’s new single shows others how Hood Tali P is a “real bipper.” In “I’m Da Man,” the rappers also speak about not wanting to settle down and their ways with women. Lyrics like “I’m just tryna lay the pipe/I ain’t gon’ play with you” emphasize Hood Tali P’s carefree view in romantic relationships. Skilla matches Hood Tali’s energy as he details intimate moments with his “mama,” his luxurious lifestyle, and his singledom.

Lil Reese and ATG – Ask About Me

Lil Reese has enlisted Detroit producer ATG for his new project, Ask About Me. The themes in Lil Reeses’ new offering explore the street code, the rappers’ influence in his city, life experiences, and more. Similarly, Lil Reese proves time and time again that his influence extends beyond his hometown. Moreover, the rapper’s pen game attests to why he certainly is elevating in the hip-hop industry. ATG matches the rapper’s wordplay with production that hones in Detroit’s energy via hard-hitting 808s, sporadic piano loops, and bombastic trap arrangements, to name a few. The LP contains hits like “What Happened” and “IDK (I Don’t Know). Ask About Me follows Lil Reese’s 2022 album, Demon Time.

Johnny Cocoa – “Must Be The Weed”

Johnny Cocoa illustrates what it’s like to get super lit in “Must Be The Weed.” Over the playful bass-heavy trap beat, Johnny Cocoa sing-raps about being taken to a euphoric world, thanks to the help of his friends who keep supplying him with an ample amount of kush and drinks. He delivers lyrics like “You tryna’ get a hold on me (hold on me) hold on, hold on/Can’t be having you control me/Moments get prolonged/I see what you doing/I see where this going.” The rest of “Must Be The Weed” finds Johnny Cocoa tapping into avid storytelling to describe how high he is. The track follows the multihyphenate’s recent single “HUNNIT DOLLA BILLS.”

C Stunna – “Vibin”

Fort Myers very own, C Stunna (@cstunna2xx), is back with another hard hitting single, “Vibin.” The single, released via MNRK, invites listeners into his boss mentality and the growth he has attributed throughout his life and artistry. Staying true to that southern sound, C Stunna’s drawl and vibrant bars is sure to encourage listeners to rap every bar along with him.
