Meek Mill and Rick Ross – Too Good To Be True

Meek Mill and Rick Ross’s’ Too Good To Be True is a 17-track offering with a slew of star-studded guest appearances. The album features Vory, Fabolous, Teyana Taylor, DJ Khaled, Wale, The Dream, Jeremih, French Montana, French Montana, and even NBA star Shaquille O’ Neal. The themes in this project focus on self-growth, hard work and dedication, gratitude, and standing on your business. Before the album’s release, the Maybach Music lyricists dropped “SHAQ & Kobe” and “Lyrical Eazy.”

Chris Brown – “Nightmares (feat. Byron Messia)”

Chris Brown uses avid storytelling to illustrate the dangers of being in the street life in “Nightmares.” Moreso, the afrobeat feel tells a tale about a person in the street life who’s looking for a way out. The individual’s vices become his confidant and more. Lyrics like “More time a lone soldier, nah trust no one/If he ever see the pagan them, him turn evil (Yeah)/Him say, ‘Me depressed, so Henny my medicine’/It’s just me and my Remington,” highlight the song’s overall theme. The song also features Byron Messia.

Lakeyah – “No Hesitation”

Lakeyah raps about having “No Hesitation” when it comes to standing her ground in this newest bass-heavy trap single. The song finds Lakeyah speaking about being authentically herself as she ignores other people’s opinions. Additionally, Quality Control’s “Female Goat” alludes that she’s always going to live her life with no regrets, spitting, “If I want it, imma cop it with no hesitation/He got a bag then he gone drop it with no hesitation/I cut em off, b**ch I got options ain’t no hesitation.”

Tierra Whack – “Chanel Pit”

Tierra Whack drops some seriously flex-worthy bars in her newest playful trap offering, “Chanel Pit.” Throughout the song, the Philly MC showcases a high level of self-assuredness and toughness. Between the rhymes, Tierra Whack makes it known that she won’t back down from any challenge. Similarly, the rapstress puts the opps in their place. Lyrics like “Microsoft, I’m a excel/Nine, ten, eleven, f**k twelve/House lookin’ like a motel/I don’t play farewell,” bring the narrative home. “Chanel Pit” will debut on Tierra Whack’s upcoming LP.

Jai Winter – “WAVES”

Jai Winters leads his bars with introspection in “WAVES.” On the jazzy trap cut, the MC takes inspiration from his thoughts and speaks about keeping his circle small, perseverance, his upbringing, and societal issues. Additionally, Jai Winter drops some words of advice to others, saying, “You can waste time in this life/It don’t matter how you live/It’ll never be right.” Jai Winter’s vulnerability in this record proves we all have bad days. Still, there’s always light in the darkness.

Fresco Trey – Detour

Fresco Trey comes out stronger after fighting against the things that were meant to destroy him via Detour. The Memphis artist’s project features NLE Choppa and charlieonnafriday. The themes in Detour see Fresco Trey at his most vulnerable as he speaks about love, loss, and other life occurrences. Sonically, the offering crosses between R&B, pop, trap, and hip-hop.

“To me, life is full of Detour, and not all detours are bad,” the musician says about the project. “Everyone thought I was going to play ball, I detoured. This project is representation of me on detour again, from just sad music to happy music. We must learn to embrace the detours in with enthusiasm and optimism.”
