Interview: CATCH REK is betting on himself with ‘Blind Faith’

Catch Rek
'Blind Faith' is a mindset.

For CATCH REK, Blind Faith is more than just an album title. It’s a mindset. The New Jersey-born rapper recently released the project after months of building it completely from the ground up, handling much of the recording process himself while taking a more intentional approach to his music and career than ever before. Speaking with Remixd Magazine, Catch REK explained that the album represents believing in his vision even before the results fully materialize.

“It’s pretty much just believing in the vision that I have, even though it hasn’t materialized fully yet,” he shared during the interview. “My journey as an artist is just overcoming adversity and things of that nature, just sticking to what I know.”

Originally from Hudson County, New Jersey, Catch REK describes himself as someone deeply influenced by traditional East Coast hip-hop. Raised on artists like Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Big L, and A Tribe Called Quest, his music naturally leans into soulful production, lyricism, and what he calls a “traditional hip-hop sound.”

“I always wanted to be respected with my pen and my peers,” he said.

And respected with the pen he is. But, he can also freestyle. He recently appeared on Shade 45 to show off his skills, and the response has been impressive. Check it out below.

Timeless And Intentional

That focus that he has about being respected shows throughout Blind Faith. Rather than chasing viral moments or trendy sounds, CATCH REK wanted the project to feel timeless and intentional. “I didn’t really go into that project trying to create a quote-unquote hit single,” he explained. “I really just wanted to give something from my heart, from my soul, that the fans and culture could appreciate.”

The album began taking shape last fall after CATCH REK set a hard deadline for himself and committed fully to creating a cohesive body of work. He purchased new recording equipment, built records from scratch, and spent roughly nine months refining the sound alongside an engineer. The process also marked a shift in mindset as he embraced a more business-minded approach to being independent.

That independent mentality has become central to his next chapter. Beyond the album itself, CATCH REK recently launched his own website, LLC, and online store as he works toward building a more direct connection with listeners.

“I want to contribute something to the culture,” he said. “I want to be a name that stands the test of time.”
