A lot of producers stay behind the scenes their entire careers. Kenwiza (@kenwiza) clearly isn’t interested in doing that anymore.
The Manchester-based Nigerian producer officially steps into the spotlight with Trips Vol. 1, a four-track EP that feels less like a random collection of songs and more like one continuous emotional experience. Rooted in afrobeats but pulling from R&B, alté, and atmospheric pop influences, the project moves through different stages of love, attraction, uncertainty, and emotional attachment without ever sounding forced.
Kenwiza already has a strong résumé behind the boards, with credits connected to artists like Gunna, Victony, Falz, and Victor Thompson. But Trips Vol. 1 feels intentionally personal. Instead of trying to stack the project with huge names or viral moments, he focuses on chemistry, mood, and storytelling.
Kenwiza steps into a new lane of his own
Each record carries its own emotional weight. “Yes!” featuring Puppatiya opens the EP with an upbeat, flirtatious energy that immediately pulls listeners in, while “Glory” featuring Jae Yo feels warmer and more melodic. “How?” featuring Mvce leans into confusion and late-night overthinking before “Waiting” featuring Doe Naju closes things out on a softer, more vulnerable note.
What makes the project work is how cohesive it feels despite the different artists involved. The production stays consistent throughout with textured percussion, airy melodies, and subtle emotional tension tying everything together. It never feels overcrowded or overproduced.
At its core, Trips Vol. 1 sounds like someone enjoying the freedom to create without overthinking expectations. Rather than chasing trends, Kenwiza seems more focused on building a mood and letting the music sit naturally in its emotions. For a debut project, that restraint ends up being one of its biggest strengths.
