Vince Staples shares his challenging path in creating ‘The Vince Staples Show’

 is making his return to the big screen return. This time, on his own terms. Just two years after its initial announcement,”The Vince Staples Show” is set to air February 15th on Netflix. Prior to the shows airing, Vince Staples appeared as a guest on “Podcast P with Paul George.” Additionally, Vince got candid with NBA Star, Paul George along side co -hosts Dallas Rutherford and Actor Jackie Long, about his creative process for the upcoming show. 

“The Vince Staples Show” is a comedy based non fiction series that is practically based on his life experiences. The series created by Staples, Ian Edelman and Maurice Williams. Additionally the show is executive produced by Kenya Barris who is best known for his shows such as ‘Black-ish’ and ‘Grownish.’ During the interview, Jackie Long asked Staples about the many hats he wears in the creating of the show including acting and writing. “It was extremely difficult—I think that that’s okay to say. Um you know what I mean?,” he said. Additionally, he revealed the just how long the show had been in the works. “A lot of the time, we go, ‘Aw man, it was a layup.’ It was really hard, it took a long time. It took, like, eight, nine years,” he added. You can watch the interview down below.

“The Vince Staples Show” overcame years of delays.

Moreover, Vince elaborated on more of the challenges he faced within the years until the shows show’s release. “You meet people that’s like aww man I love the idea of the show, this is what my show is like, do this — or oh we can turn this into this. Then you meet somebody like Ken who’s like yeah what ever you want to do when can do you just got to know this is our TV worth and everything else do what you want,” he said. Ultimately, the Covid-19 pandemic contributed to the show’s delay. “And then Covid happened. Everything’s down for years and then you’re not even thinking about it,” he added. Vince also revealed some of his personal life challenges he face during the time including the death of his Brother and Grandmother. Eventually, he returned back to working on the show and took over as a writer.

Moreover, Vince is gearing up for the show’s official release. With one day away from release, the five episode Netflix series has finally arrived after years in the making. You can watch the show’s official trailer here.
