VERZUZ is keeping the R&B run going.
Carl Thomas and Case are set to go head-to-head in the platform’s next battle on Thursday (October 22) at 6 p.m. PT / 9 p.m. ET. VERZUZ announced the matchup on October 15, and the showdown will stream live on Apple Music, Complex and VERZUZ’s own channels. According to Complex, a replay will also be available on Apple Music after the event.
Complex has billed the night as “I Wish You Never Teased Me,” a nod to each singer’s signature record. Fans can also vote live on complex.com/verzuz for their favorite song from each round.
Carl Thomas and Case bring the slow jams
Thomas enters with Emotional, his 2000 Bad Boy debut that gave fans “I Wish,” “Summer Rain,” “Giving You All My Love” and the title track. As HotNewHipHop notes, “I Wish” spent six weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B chart, and the album eventually went Platinum.
Case has his own stack of classics to pull from, including “Touch Me, Tease Me,” “Happily Ever After,” “Faded Pictures” and “Missing You.” The latter became his biggest solo hit, reaching No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B chart and No. 4 on the Hot 100.
The pairing makes sense. Both singers helped define R&B in the late ’90s and early 2000s, and their peaks overlap without the catalogs sounding the same. Expect a night full of love songs, heartbreak anthems and plenty of sing-alongs.
The battle follows August’s VERZUZ between Joe and Donell Jones, which saw 702 and G-Unit pop out before Joe took the win, 14-2. Whether Thomas or Case brings out surprise guests of their own remains to be seen, but Thursday night belongs to the slow jams.
To get ready, Apple Music has published a VERZUZ Cheat Sheet playlist featuring songs from both artists.
