Sometimes an opportunity not working out exactly as planned leads to something even bigger.
For rapper PFG (@pfg.noface), that meant going from potentially appearing on J. Cole’s The Fall-Off to having Cole produce an entire project for him.
Remixd Magazine caught up with PFG backstage at Crypto.com Arena shortly after he opened for Cole on The Fall-Off Tour. While reflecting on how he prepared for one of the biggest opportunities of his career, PFG revealed that his connection to the album actually started well before the tour.
“I was supposed to be on The Fall-Off album, maybe like a year ago, but certain things didn’t line up with the sequence,” he explained. Instead, the two went in another direction, creating PFG’s Never Say Die, an album produced entirely by Cole and released just one day before the tour began.
Their relationship goes beyond music, too. PFG says he initially met Cole through the rapper’s mentor, but their connection grew naturally from there.

“He heard my music, but really the biggest thing, he rocked with me as a person,” PFG told Remixd. “We had a brotherly bond, and the rest was history.”
Now, PFG is getting the chance to introduce that music to thousands of new listeners every night.
Touring alongside Cole has already brought a noticeable shift. PFG admitted that one of the strangest adjustments has been realizing people actually recognize him while he’s out living his everyday life.
“I might just think I can do regular stuff, and I’m like, ‘Nah, PFG, PFG,’” he joked. “So getting used to that, adapting to that as well.”
Still, his biggest takeaway has been connecting with the people discovering his music in real time. Even if only a few people in a crowd connect with a record, PFG says those are the people worth paying attention to because “that can be a fan for life.”
It’s a mindset that fits the title Never Say Die perfectly.
“Don’t ever give up,” PFG said. “Stay focused, believe in your dreams.”
After the tour wraps, PFG is already looking toward what’s next, including hopes of taking Never Say Die on a tour of its own.
