John Legend is starting a new chapter, and he brought Pharrell Williams along for the whole thing.
The EGOT-winning singer released his new album Muse on Friday (October 23). Pharrell produced all 16 tracks, co-wrote the album and is featured on six songs, including the opening title track. Clipse also show up on “Bodies On The Floor,” which gets its own “Taps Introduction.”
According to the album announcement, Legend and Pharrell got to work in Paris in January 2025, writing and recording at Pharrell’s studio inside Louis Vuitton’s headquarters, where he is Men’s Creative Director. Apple Music notes that the bigger project came together after Legend sang the chorus on Clipse’s “The Birds Don’t Sing,” from the duo’s Pharrell-produced 2025 album ‘Let God Sort Em Out.’ The two have been friends for more than 20 years, but ‘Muse’ is their first project together.
“Pharrell’s idea from the beginning was that we would create something with all of these classic, cinematic elements, this Black James Bond aesthetic,” Legend said in the announcement, “but with a modern backbeat at its foundation.”
The rollout started with lead single “Daylight,” which dropped with the album announcement on September 8. “Fireflies” followed later that month, and “Pray For Ya” got an early run on the runway, soundtracking Louis Vuitton’s Fall-Winter 2026 Men’s show. This week, Legend also previewed “Bodies On The Floor” on Fat Joe and Jadakiss’ ‘Joe & Jada.’
