The best new music from the week of July 11th!
It’s New Music Friday! Despite being halfway through the summer, we are still hoping to crown the song of the summer. While there may not be one song quite worthy of that title this week, there’s still a lot of heat. This week’s edition features standout releases from Justin Bieber, Clipse, Cash Cobain, and many more. Read on to find the latest tracks and albums that dropped this week.
New Music Friday Picks
Justin Bieber – ‘SWAG’ (Album)
Listening to Justin Bieber aka Lil Bieber’s new album made me realize what an interesting career he’s had. This surprise album kind of takes me back to ‘Journals,’ because it reminds me that he could crossover and be a R&B superstar. It helps even more that the majority of the production comes from mk.gee who helps unlock a different side of Bieber. By far, this is an early contender for album of the year.
Clipse – ‘Let God Sort Em Out’ (Album)
Despite their fifteen-year hiatus, Clipse has given us one of the best album rollouts in a while. It felt like these brothers truly had something to prove as they are able to show they are seasoned veterans. ‘Let God Sort Em Out’ is 41 minutes of pure bars, especially from the guest features from Kendrick & Nas.
Cash Cobain – ‘Feeeeeeeeel’ (EP)
Based on his performance from last summer, Cash Cobain has demonstrated he cracked the code to make summer bangers. For his recent “COLORS” live performance, he completely switched his style, as you can tell he was influenced by Brazilian-funk music. If Cash Cobain put a bigger focus/emotion into his vocals, this song could‘ve easily been a hit.
Odeal – ‘The Summer That Saved Me’ (EP)
ATL-based label, LVRN will continue to have a stronghold on the R&B genre thanks to its newest signee, Odeal. His new EP combines his elegant vocals with some serene Afrobeats-infused R&B production. The final result is wonderful and is the perfect soundtrack for a beach day.
GIVĒON – ‘BELOVED’ (Album)
With so much recent music dropping, it’s easy to forget that GIVĒON has finally dropped again. If you can get past a few tracks that sound identical, there’s a lot of good within this album. Sonically, GIVĒON makes this project worth your time thanks to his majestic vocal performances.
Larry June – ‘Until Night Comes’ (Album)
Without a doubt, Larry June has been on quite a run this year. But he’s really been able to take his sound to new heights when paired with award-winning producer Cardo Got Wings. His motivational bars can bring the hustler out of anybody, which is why he’s a national treasure. If only he could’ve increased the runtime to allow himself to flesh out his message.
Sukihana – “Make U Rain” ft Jeremih
Never in a million years could I have braced myself for this collab and it somehow delivered. This sensual single brings together Sukihana’s unfiltered/flirtatious lyricism with Jeremih’s signature sound. Surprisingly, this track gave me hope that she could pursue music seriously opposed to being just a viral sensation.
Lil Tony Official – ‘tkey vs tony’ (Album)
Without a doubt, watching Lil Tony turn to God has been one of the best success stories in rap recently. It’s made him put more effort into his craft and be more positively intentional about what he raps about. His new album displays his newfound growth which can be seen in his refreshing sound and substance-filled lyrics.
We hope you enjoyed this week’s edition of New Music Friday!
