For Soulection, the October 3 homecoming in Los Angeles felt like a celebration of how far a local music community can reach without losing the feeling that brought people together in the first place.
The Soulection Experience drew nearly 9,000 people to Reframe Studios Outdoors for the collective’s 15th anniversary. The crowd came for a lineup led by Joe Kay, KAYTRANADA, Sango and esta., with DJ Miss Milan and Ayanna Heaven also on the bill. But the scale of the event was only part of the story. Soulection has spent years building a space where music discovery and community move together, and the anniversary show brought that history into one place.
Remixd Magazine was in attendance to capture the event. Fans filled the outdoor venue on a hot Los Angeles day, ready to experience the music and vibes. Joe Kay, esta. and Sango each brought their own take on Soulection’s wide-ranging sound. The collective’s identity has never depended on one genre. Its appeal comes from the way it connects the dots between global rhythms, electronic production, R&B and hip-hop.
KAYTRANADA’s headlining set gave the night a historic edge. It was his first time joining Soulection in Los Angeles, a pairing that brought together two names with roots in music discovery and dance-floor culture. His set moved through familiar records and high-energy moments, including a reunion with singer Shay Lia for a nod to the dance that helped make “Leave Me Alone” a fan favorite.
Soulection celebrates 15 years
The night also opened space for artists to share the moment. Joyce Wrice, Jordan Ward, Blxst, Lucky Daye, SiR, Samara Cyn and Alex Isley appeared as special guests. The crowd was definitely taken by surprise while being treated to some of the leading voices in hip-hop and R&B.
Fifteen years after its start as a radio show, Soulection has grown into a global platform for music and community. The Los Angeles anniversary show made that growth visible, but the heart of it remained familiar: people coming together to hear something new, recognize something they love and leave with a few more artists to follow.
